Navajo Horses

Without saying too much, I love the Navajo Land for many reasons even though it can be sad and frustrating at times. It’s also incredibly beautiful and resilient, much like the Navajo People. One really awesome thing I’ve witnessed many times on Navajo Lands though, is the horses. I love seeing them. One time I was driving to Hovenweep from Cortez, Colorado on the Isnay Trading Post Road when a horse began wallowing in the dry desert sand before getting up and galloping from the right side of the road ahead of me and across it all the while leaving a huge trail of dust and sand blowing in the setting sun. It was absolutely magnificent and I wish I could have captured the moment but it will forever be in my mind. I’ve seen the horses off the highway near Monument Valley and on the bare gravel roads near White Mesa. No matter where you spot them, they’re majestic.
