Mount Rushmore National Memorial
Nestled in the center of the Black Hills in South Dakota just off of the awe inspiring Peter Norbeck National Scenic Byway is the National Treasure of Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
The Memorial sports the images of four 60 foot tall legendary American Presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. From 1927 to 1941, Sculptor Gutzon Borglum, the same genius designer behind Stone Mountain in Georgia (Shrine to the Confederacy), designed the sculpture which he called Shrine of Democracy.
The amazing, absolutely the best engineered road in the country, the Peter Norbeck National Scenic Byway, allows you to see it through breaks in the trees, tunnels, and from incredible lookouts in the surrounding Black Hills.
