Panorama Trail with Cool Cave

5.8 Miles Roundtrip Loop

Moderate Hike To Cave, Through Spires, & To An Exceptional Panoramic View

Sure, Kodachrome’s a cool name for the park cause of the awesome colors and what not but it isn’t as accurate as Phallus State Park or Spire State Park. For real though, the place is beautiful and it has great hikes. It’s also in a great location being pretty close to Bryce Canyon and to The Hole in the Rock Road. The whole area is amazing and this state park is a good part of it. Plus they have a disc golf course!

The best hike in the State Park has got to be the Panorama Trail with the Cool Cave spur making it 5.8 miles but it’s a fantastic hike with amazing views, an awesome water carved canyon and cave, and lots of those aforementioned spires.

“Spires” everywhere. But also this face profile with long flowing hair.

Eventually you descend down into some eroded red badlands and follow the red cliffside past more spires (!) before coming to the end of the trail where an awesome cave bids you to enter.

After the cool cave, which really is very cool, you’re back out on the trail and heading towards Panorama Point which boasts a fantastic view of the entire area in a wonderful 360° fashion. You can see Bryce Canyon’s cliffside wall, the Kaiparowits Plateau, and all the phallus spires of Kodachrome Basin State Park. It’s worth the steep but brief hike.

And then before you know it, you’re back on the main trail and heading back to the trailhead past all those lovely spires. I’m still a little salty at the name, obviously.
