Camping at Kodachrome
I make fun of Kodachrome Basin State Park a lot because of all the “spires” everywhere but I really do love it. It’s a beautiful place that’s a beautiful base camp for adventures on the Kaiparowits Plateau, Bryce Canyon, Red Canyon, and the Grand Staircase-Escalante, and so much more. There are three campgrounds at Kodachrome. The Basin Campground has a rocky backdrop and 35 sites. The Arch has 13 campsites. The Bryce View has 11.
I absolutely recommend camping there and I have done so twice… although one time 50 mph winds & below freezing temperatures cut our camping evening short and we wimped out to a hotel on the other side of Bryce. That’s beside the point, the place is fantastic and there’s even a frisbee golf course that runs through the park! The first time I camped amongst the rocks at the Basin Campground but the second time my wife and I camped out in the desert at Bryce View Campground. Both were awesome but we were treated to a magnificent (and magnificently windy) sunset at Bryce View.
My camping spot in the Basin Campground surrounded by the colorful basin walls.
Overall, I cannot recommend Kodachrome Basin enough. Plus, it’s always great to support the State Parks over the National Parks who have way too much money and who are imposing more and more rules and regulations and fees while making the wild more and more accessible… which, is a good and a bad thing. It’s the adventurer’s dilemma. Anyways, you’ll enjoy the park and it’s a short drive away from the awesome Grosverner Arch. As well as a thousand other gems.
