Barker Dam Trail
1.3 Miles Roundtrip
Level Hike With Joshua Trees, American Indian Pictographs, Fantastic Views of San Gorgonio, & Old Cowboy Infrastructure
The Barker Dam Trail (1.3 miles) is a favorite of mine because it has a special place in my heart and it has a special place that my wife and I go to that’s secluded and offers the greatest view of the distant mountains, the Joshua Trees, and the awesome JT rocks. No, I’m not telling you where that spot is but I will tell you this trail is lots of fun and the entire thing is beautiful and worth it and has little interpretive plaques as well as some petroglyphs that have been vandalized unfortunately. If you’re feeling a longer walk, then just keep going through the little dry pond past the dam and walk along through the Big Barker Dam Loop Trail, which is three miles and explores the canyons filled with boulders and trees and more beautiful scenery.
It’s also a great hike to see the sunrise on. And be on the lookout for Cholla Cactus, lizards, and an old horse trough.
