Hermit Road
The 7 mile one way from Grand Canyon Village Hermit Road offers 9 Viewpoints on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. The road is only open to personal vehicles in December, January, & February. For the remaining 9 months there is a shuttle that stops at the viewpoints. There is also the 7.8 miles one way Canyon Rim Trail which follows the rim to Hermits Rest.
Hermit’s Rest Road has quite a few stops and each have fantastic views that differ from the tried and true Desert View Drive stops. The first is Trailview Overlook, which is followed by Maricopa Point, and then Powell Point, Hopi Point, Mohave Point, The Abyss, Monument Creek Vista, Pima Point, and finally, Hermit Trailhead.
My wife and I visited the Hermit’s Road on New Years Day, or rather the sunrise on New Years Day when it was nice and cold, slippery with ice & snow, and quite overcast. But we had the lookouts to ourselves and regardless of the weather, The Grand Canyon is always breathtakingly amazing and jaw dropping. It never gets tiring.
