La Ventana Natural Arch, just off the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (117) in the Narrows is a massive arch that’s easily viewed from the roadside stop. It’s a very short 1/4 mile hike from the parking lot to the viewing spot below the massive sandstone arch. It’s the second largest natural arch in New Mexico and it’s a must visit if you’re in El Malpais. You can also see Mount Taylor from the hike and marvel at the many volcanoes that helped shape this landscape. Although, water and wind rather than magma shaped this massive arch.
