Cosmic Campground International Dark Sky Sanctuary is located in the Gila National Forest in the southwestern corner of New Mexico and offers exceptionally dark night skies as well as 8 first come first serve campsites with toilets and fire pits. It's near the Arizona border and features seclusion and mountain views. The nearest light source is 40 miles away so the 360° unobstructed night sky is breathtaking. Beware of forest fires though, that can erupt after drier seasons. Although, they do provide some beautiful sunsets. Also, you may have many a curious cow visitor moseying on through your campsite during the night… At least I think they were cows.

Nearby is the Catwalk Recreation Area and not too far from that is the magnificent Gila Cliff Dwelling National Monument.
