Aztec Butte may only be 1.2 miles roundtrip but it is not an easy one. The ascent is steep and tricky on exposed slick sandstone. But even before the ascent you’re hiking in deep coral pink sand. I saw someone get sick and someone else almost pass out within a 5 minute period. But once you’ve made it to the top, there’s some Anasazi Ruins and beautiful views of canyons, mountains, and desert.
